Honkai: Star Rail developer HoYoverse have announced that they will be adding an in-game chat option and a material source tracker, among other quality of life changes, to the game in version 1.1.

HoYoverse revealed the upcoming changes in their ‘Voice of the Galaxy | Developer Radio’ blog post on Thursday (18 May), where they addressed some of Honkai: Star Rail's issues brought up by player feedback.

Among the issues raised by players were the lack of an in-game chat option, a source tracker for character ascension materials, a lack of variety in character facial expressions when in Photo Mode, as well as overly flash effects for Seele's ultimate and rough pacing during the Xianzhou Luofu storyline.

HoYoverse said these issues will be addressed in version 1.1 or in future versions.

The in-game chat option, material source tracker, and additional facial expressions for characters in Camera Mode will be implemented in version 1.1.

In the upcoming version, players will be able to chat in-game with any players on their friends list and see the location of enemies that will drop certain character ascension materials when clicking on the ‘Sources’ button in the relevant menu. The character facial expressions in Camera Mode will also be improved in version 1.1 and will be optimised in future updates.

Meanwhile, HoYoverse also promised to add an option to personalise the amount of effects during character ultimates, especially Seele's, after a significant number of players apparently reported their eyes started hurting after seeing its flashy effects too many times.

Since this feature will require extra development and testing, HoYoverse said it will not be available in version 1.1 but that they are striving to implement it as soon as possible.

Finally, the developers are planning to change the ‘Sanctus Medicus’ portions of the Xianzhou Luofu storyline after players complained that it seemed really abrupt and forced.

HoYoverse said that the placement of the Sanctus Medicus missions negatively impacted the overall story experience, prompting to change all Sanctus Medicus missions from main story-relevant Trailblaze Missions to the more side quest-like Adventure Missions. This change will be implemented in future updates.

Despite the aforementioned issues, Honkai: Star Rail still had a massively successful launch, thanks in part to the many quality of life features already in the game that had Genshin Impact players seething.

While Genshin Impact has been out for over two years now, it still lacks many of the features that Honkai: Star Rail had at launch, including a smoother daily commission and expedition experience as well as an actual, well-written protagonist.

With how quickly HoYoverse has addressed the issues players had with Honkai: Star Rail, even implementing some of them by version 1.1, we can only imagine how Genshin Impact players may feel.

Honkai: Star Rail is currently in the second half of version 1, featuring Jing Yuan as the 5-star banner character. Version 1.1 is expected to come in early June.

Honkai: Star Rail officially launched on 26 April on PC, Android, and iOS. The game will also be made available on PlayStation some time after release. You can download the game here.
