Work crews are completing repairs to the heavily-damaged main entrance to the Binghamton Boscov's department store.

The Court Street entryway was closed for almost seven weeks after a car slammed into the doors and the surrounding brick structure.

The repair project was delayed until needed materials for the job became available.

Thousands of dollars in damage was caused when a vehicle crashed into the building at the corner of Court and Water streets around 3:30 a.m. August 21.

Binghamton police have not released information about the circumstances surrounding the crash or whether the woman was was driving the car was charged in connection with the incident. Witnesses said they believed the driver was not seriously injured.

Once the repair work began, it proceeded in phases. Bricks around the entrance first were replaced. New door frames were put into place followed by the installation of glass.

No final estimate of the store repair project has been released.

One man was busy finishing the project Friday afternoon. He expected the store entrance to be back in operation on Saturday.

Workers said the goal was to have things back to normal in time for Monday, when a large crowd is expected downtown for the annual Columbus Day Parade.
